Our Purpose

The Eden Cafe is a social enterprise, dedicated to providing the Vancouver Downtown Eastside with great coffee and food in a welcoming space for people from all walks of life.

how we impact our community

As a social enterprise our cafe aims to better our neighbourhood by creating jobs for individuals who might otherwise be excluded from the workforce due to their past struggling with addictions and/or lack of experience. We also provide an intentionally hospitable and welcoming space that fosters healthy community for all people.

what is the purpose of the program?

The Eden Cafe is a social enterprise, dedicated to providing the Vancouver Downtown Eastside with great coffee and food in a welcoming space for people from all walks of life.

How did this program start?

The idea to open the Eden Cafe started initially when Coastal Church decided to visit the Message Trust in U.K. and got to see and experience the impact they were having in some of the toughest neighbourhoods in Manchester and globally through their Eden teams and social enterprise endeavors.

With our love for DTES and long term commitment to asset-based community development we too decided to have an Eden team planted in the heart of DTES in 2017. Three years later on November 25, 2019 we were able to open a social enterprise Cafe as another avenue and strategy to help make our city a better place and support people in rebuilding their lives.

How can I get involved?

You can support the work of our Eden DTES team by making a one-time or recurring donation. Funds go towards our Eden DTES programs  – which provides us opportunities to reach out and connect with marginalized individuals, and those needing a second chance.

Who do we partner with?

Eden Cafe partners with trusted local businesses to train our staff. We work with the Dirty Apron Cooking School for culinary training for our staff and Caffe Umbria for our barista training and as our main coffee supplier.
